Microsoft Unveils Frosted Glass Background and Dark Mode for Account Login Page Next Month

July 31, 2025 – According to a recent blog post from tech media outlet NeoWin, Microsoft is set to roll out a series of updates to its personal account login page starting in August 2025. The most notable change is the introduction of a frosted glass effect for background images, accompanied by the addition of a dark mode option.

Beginning next month, Microsoft will revamp the login interface. In light mode, users will be greeted with a soft pastel gradient background. Meanwhile, the frosted glass effect for the background image adheres to the Fluent Design aesthetic, aiming to deliver a cleaner, distraction-free, and consistent user experience while also modernizing the user interface.

Microsoft has also announced that starting from September 29, 2025, this new background image design will be extended to Entra work and education accounts. Importantly, this visual update will be applied automatically, eliminating the need for administrator intervention. However, companies looking to reinforce their brand identity will have the option to set a background image that reflects their corporate branding first.

In addition to the frosted glass effect, Microsoft’s updated login page will support dark mode. This mode will dynamically adjust based on the current settings of the browser or operating system. When dark mode is activated, the overall design remains unchanged, but the background image is altered to fit the darker theme.
