Microsoft to Pull the Plug on Mobile Plans App for Win10/Win11 on Feb 27, 2026

August 29, 2025 – Yesterday (August 28), tech media outlet NeoWin reported that Microsoft has announced its plan to discontinue the Mobile Plans app on both Windows 10 and Windows 11 systems starting from February 27, 2026.

The Mobile Plans app was initially developed by Microsoft with the aim of promoting the widespread adoption of eSIM technology on PCs. It was mainly designed for Windows devices equipped with cellular connectivity features. Through this app, users could directly purchase data plans from mobile operators and get connected to the internet swiftly.

However, as eSIM technology and online services provided by mobile operators have become more mature, Microsoft has decided to stop maintaining the Mobile Plans app. The company advises users to purchase data plans directly from their respective mobile operators’ websites. Microsoft stated that this move not only gives operators greater flexibility but also streamlines the user experience by reducing reliance on an additional application.

In Windows 11, Microsoft has already integrated relevant functions into the Settings app. After users agree to share their device identifiers with operators, the system can automatically configure the eSIM without the need for manual data entry.

It’s important to note that discontinuing the Mobile Plans app does not mean that devices will lose their cellular network capabilities. Users can still purchase and configure data plans through the web portals of their mobile operators. The report also mentioned that Microsoft is collaborating with operators to add dedicated guides for Windows 11 eSIM configuration on operator websites, aiming to assist users in completing the setup process smoothly.
