iPhone 17 Pro/Max Set to Debut: Apple Conquers Anti-Glare Coating Production Challenges

July 17, 2025 – According to a recent blog post by tech media outlet MacRumors on July 16, Apple has successfully overcome the production hurdles associated with its scratch-resistant, anti-glare screen coating. This breakthrough paves the way for the technology to be integrated into the upcoming iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max models.

The concept of equipping iPhones with advanced anti-scratch and anti-reflective display coatings first emerged in 2024. Apple’s intention was to introduce this cutting-edge technology to its high-end iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max variants, marking the first time such a feature would be available on iPhones.

Earlier in April of this year, reports surfaced indicating that Apple was facing significant challenges in mass-producing the coating. The production process was deemed too sluggish to keep up with Apple’s annual production targets, which involve manufacturing millions of devices. Even when considering only the Pro series models, the company failed to meet its intended production goals for the year.

However, the latest developments reveal that Apple, in collaboration with its suppliers, has made substantial improvements to the manufacturing process. As a result, the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max are still on track to be the first models to feature this innovative anti-glare display technology.
