June 10, 2025 – During the WWDC 2025 Global Developers Conference, Apple unveiled the iOS 26 system update, introducing a highly anticipated enhancement: a brand-new “Clear Look” display option that goes beyond the traditional light and dark modes.
This innovative mode is built upon Apple’s recently launched Liquid Glass design language, creating a multi-layered semi-transparent aesthetic. Application icons and interface elements can now dynamically adjust according to their content and the surrounding environment, presenting a distinctive and translucent visual appeal.
The “Clear Look” experience isn’t confined to just icons. It extends to widgets and other interface components, seamlessly integrating with Apple’s all-new universal design system. This integration aims to deliver a consistent user experience across platforms like iOS, iPadOS, and macOS.
According to Apple, the new design maintains cross-platform uniformity while still respecting the unique characteristics of each device. Moreover, all application icons have been fully optimized for the “Liquid Glass” material, enabling them to intelligently adapt to varying lighting conditions.
