June 9, 2025 – The long – awaited Apple AirTag 2 could be making its debut soon. According to Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman in his “Power On” newsletter, the new – generation AirTag is “pretty much ready” and is likely to hit the market in the near future. Gurman had previously forecasted that the product would be launched around mid – 2025, and now that timeframe is fast approaching.
During the Q&A section of his newsletter, Gurman stated, “The new AirTag is basically set to go. It has been in the pipeline for a release over the past few months, but I don’t think it’s something that warrants a lot of attention, and a showcase at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) wouldn’t hold much significance either.”

At present, there are numerous rumors circulating about the upgrades of the AirTag 2. First and foremost, the device will be equipped with Apple’s second – generation Ultra – Wideband chip. This upgrade is expected to significantly expand its tracking range, potentially increasing it by up to three times compared to the current AirTag.
In addition, the AirTag 2 will be integrated with Apple’s Vision Pro and spatial computing technology, opening up even more application scenarios for the product. Moreover, the new AirTag will feature a more tamper – resistant speaker. This change is aimed at reducing the risk of the device being misused for tracking purposes. However, Gurman has indicated that there are unlikely to be any major design alterations in the appearance of the AirTag 2.
It’s worth noting that Apple’s first – generation AirTag was officially unveiled at an Apple event in April 2021.
