October 31, 2025 – Today, tech media outlet Android Authority published a blog post reporting that at the Future Investment Initiative (FII) conference held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Google teamed up with Magic Leap to unveil a prototype of a new Android XR glasses.
Magic Leap stated that this collaboration leverages its in – depth expertise in optical components and device manufacturing, along with Google’s formidable capabilities in artificial intelligence (AI) and display technology. The aim is to drive the evolution of XR technology from bulky head – mounted displays to more lightweight and portable everyday glasses.
Magic Leap made it clear that in the future, it will no longer act as a hardware manufacturer directly targeting consumers. Instead, it will transform into an “AR ecosystem partner.” The company is committed to providing core technical support and reference designs to companies like Google, helping them bring mature consumer – grade AR devices to the market.

According to the blog post, the Android XR prototype on display incorporates Magic Leap’s cutting – edge waveguides and optical technology, as well as the MicroLED light engine developed by Google’s Raxium team.
Shahram Izadi, Google’s VP of XR, said that Magic Leap’s precise optical technology enables digital information to be naturally overlaid and anchored in the real world. Meanwhile, MicroLED can offer clearer and sharper visual effects while maintaining a thin and light frame, making the glasses suitable for all – day wear.
The live demonstration vividly showcased the functions of the glasses powered by Gemini AI. Continuing the concept of Google’s previous “Martha” prototype, with built – in cameras and microphones, the glasses can analyze the scene in front of the user in real – time and respond instantly.
For instance, when walking on the street, users can ask for information about surrounding buildings or stores at any time, and the answers will be directly displayed in their field of view. While shopping in a store, Gemini can analyze carpet patterns and offer matching suggestions. The demonstration even included a scenario where it provided swing suggestions after playing golf, demonstrating how AI can seamlessly integrate into daily life.
