Former Intel CEO Gelsinger Dives into Venture Capital with $1.2 Billion Focus on Quantum Computing, Biotech

March 27, 2025 – In a blog post published yesterday, March 26th, tech media outlet Jon Peddie reported that renowned venture capital firm Playground Global has announced the appointment of former Intel and VMware CEO Pat Gelsinger as a General Partner (GP).

Gelsinger, who boasts a four-decade-long career in the computing and semiconductor industries, having led two tech giants, will take on a triple role at Playground: investor, mentor to startups, and technical advisor. He will concurrently serve as the Executive Chairman of xLight, one of Playground’s portfolio companies specializing in extreme ultraviolet (EUV) lithography technology.

With assets under management totaling 1.2billion,includinganew410 million fund, Playground Global is heavily focused on frontier areas such as quantum computing and biotechnology. The firm invests in four key sectors: computing technology, automation, energy, and biotech.
