January 12, 2026 – According to a recent report from Wccftech, Pat Gelsinger, the former CEO of Intel, recently shared his insights on his former employer’s latest achievements in advanced manufacturing processes. He highlighted that the Panther Lake chips built on the 18A process represent a significant milestone, and it’s crucial to maintain the current pace of progress.
At this year’s CES event, Intel unveiled the first batch of Panther Lake chips based on the 18A process. Gelsinger emphasized that achieving this goal is of utmost importance as Intel aims to gain the trust of fabless companies like Nvidia. The launch of the Panther Lake chips indicates that Intel’s foundry business is moving in the right direction.

Gelsinger pointed out that the 18A process and the Panther Lake chips are major milestones, and the foundation for these technologies was laid during his tenure. He expressed great pride in the Intel team’s work on the 18A process and the Panther Lake chips, noting that he personally delivered sample chips to Lenovo before leaving his position. Thus, this success implies that the chip had already taken shape under his leadership.
When discussing how to attract customers to commit to using Intel’s foundry services, Gelsinger believed that the real driving forces come not only from incentives like the CHIPS and Science Act but also from broader government policy support, such as tariff policies.
Looking ahead to the foundry business, Gelsinger stated that winning customers for advanced processes like 18A-P and 14A would be the key. It is reported that Intel’s current CEO, Lip-Bu Tan, is also quite confident about the progress of the 14A process.
