EU Users Blocked from iPhone Mirroring on macOS Tahoe Due to Regulatory Limbo, Apple Says

June 20, 2025 – Almost a year after its initial launch, Apple’s iPhone Mirroring feature remains unavailable in the European Union, including in the latest iteration of macOS Tahoe unveiled this year. During the 2025 Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) last week, the tech giant confirmed to French tech outlet Numerama that regulatory ambiguities in the EU continue to stall the feature’s rollout across the region.

While Apple has refrained from elaborating on specific concerns, industry observers speculate the company fears potential regulatory demands from the European Commission. These could include mandates to extend iPhone Mirroring to Windows devices or require cross-platform compatibility for Android devices on macOS. Another concern is that integrating iPhone Mirroring into macOS might prompt regulators to classify macOS as a “gatekeeper” platform akin to iOS and iPadOS, subjecting it to stricter compliance obligations under the EU’s Digital Markets Act (DMA).

Originally introduced in macOS Sequoia last year, iPhone Mirroring enables users to wirelessly interact with their iPhones via a dedicated window on their Mac desktops. This includes launching iPhone apps, managing notifications, and performing other tasks seamlessly between the two devices. Despite its global availability, EU users have yet to access the feature, highlighting the ongoing tension between tech innovation and regulatory frameworks in the region.
