Disney Jumps on Short – Video Bandwagon: Vertical Content Coming to U.S. Disney+ in 2026

January 9, 2026 – At CES 2026, Disney made a major announcement: Disney+ in the U.S. will introduce short – form video content this year, aiming to boost users’ daily usage frequency.

Disney stated that this brand – new content format will keep evolving alongside the expansion of news and entertainment offerings. By presenting content in a more personalized and dynamic way, it intends to solidify Disney+’s position as a platform that users open every day and attract a younger user base.

According to information shared with Deadline, an external media outlet, the short – form video content could encompass a variety of forms. It might include original short videos, re – edited content snippets from social platforms, highlights from TV shows or movies, or a combination of these different forms. When designing these videos, the team will focus on how to seamlessly integrate vertical videos into users’ core usage habits, avoiding a disjointed or random experience. “It won’t be a randomly assembled content stream,” the team emphasized.

It’s worth noting that Disney+ is not the first streaming platform to venture into vertical video. Netflix launched a similar vertical video content stream last year, enabling users to swipe through highlights of its original content.

Disney’s current move is a continuation of its exploration in the field of vertical video. Last year, the company already introduced a personalized vertical video feed in its ESPN app.
