July 7, 2025 – According to a recent report from analytics firm Omdia, BOE Technology has made significant strides within Apple’s supply chain this year, particularly in the MacBook segment. The Chinese display manufacturer is projected to secure approximately 51% of LCD panel orders for Apple’s MacBook lineup, surpassing LG Display—previously the dominant supplier for MacBook screens.

This development marks a turning point in the long-standing relationship between Apple and BOE, which has been characterized by both collaboration and tension. Apple has long sought to diversify its suppliers by incorporating BOE’s panels as a cost-saving alternative to those from Samsung Display and LG Display. However, BOE has faced challenges in consistently meeting Apple’s stringent quality requirements, leading the tech giant to maintain a multi-supplier strategy across its product lines. For instance, despite BOE’s success in securing a majority share of MacBook panel orders this year, the company failed to win approval for LTPO OLED panels intended for the iPhone 17 series. As a result, Samsung Display and LG Display are expected to supply all OLED panels for the upcoming iPhone models.
Looking ahead, BOE may encounter fresh obstacles as Apple prepares to overhaul the MacBook Pro next year. Reports suggest that the redesigned MacBook Pro will feature tandem OLED panels similar to those used in the iPad Pro. If Apple proceeds with this plan, its reliance on Samsung and LG for advanced OLED technology is likely to grow, potentially diminishing BOE’s role in the MacBook supply chain. This shift underscores the ongoing competition among display makers as they vie for a share of Apple’s lucrative orders amid rapidly evolving technology trends.
