Apple’s Siri Revamp with Apple Intelligence Delayed Until Spring Next Year, iOS 26.4 Release Eyed

June 13, 2025 – According to Bloomberg, Apple’s highly anticipated update to Siri featuring Apple Intelligence has faced yet another delay, with the new functionality now expected to be rolled out with iOS 26.4 in March next year.

Initially, Apple had aimed to launch the upgraded Siri in the fall of 2024. However, the release was postponed to early 2025, then further pushed back to May of this year. Now, it has been delayed once again, this time to “spring next year,” marking a delay of over a year from the original timeline.

Bloomberg has revealed that the primary cause of the delay is technical in nature. The current “hybrid architecture” employed by Siri, which attempts to merge the responses from the original Siri with AI-generated replies from the new version, has encountered significant issues. During testing, this architecture failed in one out of every three attempts.

The sluggish progress of the project has also led to changes within Apple’s upper management. John Giannandrea, the head of Apple’s AI division, has been sidelined and is gradually stepping away from Siri and other consumer-facing projects. The updated Siri project is now being overseen by Craig Federighi and Mike Rockwell, who also leads the Vision Pro initiative. Additionally, the core technology “Siri LLM” is undergoing a complete overhaul.

Looking ahead, Bloomberg reports that Apple’s long-term vision for Siri is to transform it into a “digital assistant” capable of continuous online interaction, engaging in conversational exchanges, and providing proactive assistance. Furthermore, Apple is currently developing an AI chat tool akin to ChatGPT, named “Knowledge,” which will have the ability to access internet information resources.
