Apple iOS 26 Revives News & Entertainment Notification Summaries: Italicized Display with AI Origin Labels

July 23, 2025 – Yesterday, on July 22, tech outlet MacRumors shared a post revealing that Apple has brought back the “Smart Notification Summaries” feature for news and entertainment apps in the iOS 26 Beta 4 update.

According to the report, after upgrading to iOS 26 Beta 4, iPhone users will be greeted with a pop-up window. This window asks them to select the app categories for which they want to enable notification summaries. There are three options available: News and Entertainment, Communication and Social, and All Other Apps. Users can make their choices based on their personal preferences.

Apple stated that the iOS 26 Beta 4 update has put a major focus on enhancing notification summaries. It has resolved the issue of news headline confusion that might have occurred due to the smart summary feature in the past. For news and entertainment content, all summary text will be presented in italics, and there will be a clear label stating “Summarized by Apple Intelligence.”

Moreover, Apple has plans to keep testing and refining the “Apple Intelligence” summaries during the iOS 26 testing phase. It has also given users the ability to directly report any problems they encounter with the notification summaries.
