May 20 2025 – According to the latest report from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple has been quietly conducting internal tests on its self-developed AI chatbot.
Under the leadership of the new AI chief, John Giannandrea, Apple’s in-house AI project has achieved remarkable technological advancements over the past six months. Sources indicate that Apple executives believe the current iteration of the chatbot is on par with the latest version of ChatGPT.
Despite Giannandrea’s earlier reservations, some Apple executives have been committed to transforming Siri into a genuine competitor to ChatGPT. In line with this vision, the company has initiated discussions about enhancing Siri’s capabilities by allowing it to access the open web, scrape, and integrate data from multiple sources.

The chatbot undergoing internal testing has made significant strides in the last six months, with some executives asserting that its performance is comparable to recent iterations of ChatGPT.
It’s worth noting that Apple has yet to deploy its large language model technology or chatbot features in any publicly available products.
Gurman’s report further confirms that Apple does not currently plan to unveil a major Siri update at the upcoming WWDC 2025 developer conference. Instead, the “Siri 2.0” equipped with a large language model is expected to make its debut later in the iOS 19 development cycle.
