September 4, 2025 – According to a blog post by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman on September 3, Apple has inked a fresh deal with Google this week. As part of this agreement, the tech giant has commenced evaluating Google’s Gemini AI model. Moreover, it has dropped the idea of acquiring Perplexity, an AI – search – focused company.

It’s reported that Apple is currently in the process of testing a variety of AI solutions. Alongside its in – house developed models, the company is actively looking into integrating technologies from OpenAI and Anthropic, in addition to Google. Gurman revealed that Apple hasn’t made a final decision on which technology to adopt. However, Google’s Gemini has emerged as a key candidate under close scrutiny. This development indicates that the cooperation between Apple and Google in the AI field has entered a phase of practical testing.
On the same day, it was also disclosed that Apple is working on an AI – powered search product named “World Knowledge Answers.” The company plans to launch this product next year and integrate it into Siri, enabling it to offer AI – based web search services. Gurman pointed out that Google’s AI model is highly likely to provide technical support for this search tool.
Additionally, sources mentioned that due to the solidification of its partnership with Google, Apple has decided to abandon the plan of acquiring Perplexity.
