June 30, 2025 – Volvo has quietly made a significant announcement overseas, revealing that it has successfully delivered its 5,000th electric heavy – duty truck. Since 2019, the company has been in the business of delivering pure – electric heavy – duty trucks. Its customer base now spans over 50 countries globally, and the cumulative mileage of these trucks has exceeded 100 million miles. In stark contrast, Tesla’s Semi electric truck has only seen around 140 units delivered so far.
Roger Alm, President of Volvo Trucks, expressed his satisfaction, saying, “It’s truly gratifying to witness third – party transportation companies continuously recognizing the advantages of Volvo’s electric trucks across various sectors. Our electric trucks can be directly put into transportation use, offering customers and transportation buyers a more sustainable and commercially viable solution. Many customers are even repurchasing more vehicles to expand their electric truck fleets.”

Taking into account Volvo’s first – mover advantage, Tesla’s over – five – year delay in mass production, and the recent “dramatic” price hike of the Semi to around $420,000 per unit, it seems highly challenging for Tesla to catch up with Volvo, even if it starts mass – producing the Semi in 2026 as planned.
Currently, Volvo has maintained its top position in the European heavy – duty electric truck market for five consecutive years, holding a 47% market share. In the United States and Canada, the company achieved a 40% market share in 2024.
