June 7, 2025 – Tesla has just announced a significant production milestone: the 8 millionth electric vehicle has rolled off the assembly line at its Giga Berlin facility. The vehicle in question is none other than the globally best – selling Model Y.
Looking back at Tesla’s production journey, the company reached its first major production landmark of 1 million vehicles in March 2020, a full 12 years after its inception. By August 2022, Elon Musk revealed that Tesla had surpassed the 3 – million – vehicle production mark. Notably, the Shanghai Gigafactory alone had contributed 1 million units to this total.
In September 2023, the automaker announced that it had accumulated a production of 5 million vehicles, with a gap of about six months between the 4 – millionth and 5 – millionth vehicle roll – outs.

On March 30, 2024, Tesla marked the production of its 6 – millionth vehicle at the Fremont Gigafactory. And by October 22 of the same year, the 7 – millionth electric vehicle from Tesla made its debut at the Fremont plant.
However, the company is currently facing some headwinds in terms of sales in certain global markets. Data from the China Passenger Car Association shows that in May, Tesla’s electric vehicle sales in China dropped by 15% year – on – year, with a total of 61,662 units sold. This marks the eighth consecutive month of year – on – year sales decline for Tesla in the Chinese market.
The situation isn’t much better in Europe either. In May, Tesla experienced a fifth – straight month of sales decline in the UK, Germany, and Italy, with mounting sales pressure. A spokesperson for Tesla in the UK mentioned that the refreshed Model Y is set to be delivered locally in June, which is expected to give a boost to sales. It’s worth noting that the Tesla Model Y was the top – selling car in Europe in 2023.
