March 23, 2025 – Elon Musk announced on X that Tesla stores have ramped up security measures, with all vehicles inside activated in “Sentry Mode.” This comes amid a surge of protests and acts of vandalism targeting Tesla properties across North America, fueled by discontent over policies spearheaded by Musk’s “Department of Government Efficiency.” The automaker has also witnessed a decline in sales figures recently.
Vandalism against Tesla vehicles has escalated sharply, with one Canadian dealership seeing over 80 cars damaged overnight—their exteriors scratched and tires slashed. In response, Tesla plans to enhance its Sentry Mode features. According to updates on the Cybertruck webpage, the upcoming version of Sentry Mode will introduce a new capability to monitor unattended vehicles. When a threat is detected, it will automatically trigger alarms, increase touchscreen brightness, and blast music at maximum volume.

While the idea of cars spontaneously “singing” may seem odd, this feature aims to draw attention from both owners and bystanders, potentially deterring criminals and curbing vandalism against Tesla vehicles. However, it’s crucial to recognize that the root cause of these attacks lies in the widespread dissatisfaction with Musk’s policies as Tesla’s CEO.
While the upgraded Sentry Mode may force vandals to act more discreetly, addressing Tesla’s current challenges will ultimately require tackling the issues stemming from Musk himself.
