April 14, 2025 – Tesla has just released a new video via its official X account, heralding a significant milestone for its “unsupervised” Full Self-Driving (FSD) system: over 50,000 miles of autonomous driving accomplished without human intervention.
The trials, primarily conducted within Tesla’s manufacturing facilities, involved automated journeys from production lines to delivery lots for both the new Model Y and Cybertruck. Equipped with the latest AI4 hardware (version 4.0), these vehicles navigated intricate factory environments, including dynamic traffic signs, construction zones, pedestrians, and automated logistics systems—all while communicating with each other to prevent collisions.

In a demonstration on test tracks at Tesla’s Austin, Texas, and Fremont factories, a Model Y completed a 1.5-mile unsupervised FSD route, traversing roads filled with pedestrians, cars, semi-trucks, and construction machinery. Meanwhile, the Cybertruck ascended a 17% grade, emerging from a dedicated Cybertunnel beneath one of the nation’s busiest highways and steering itself to a designated delivery area—all without human control.
Tesla’s unsupervised FSD testing on public roads is set to commence in June, with Austin slated as the initial test site. The company also debuted vibrant ambient lighting for vehicles operating in FSD mode, though it remains uncertain whether this feature will become standard across all FSD-enabled models.
This breakthrough underscores Tesla’s push toward autonomous driving, blending cutting-edge AI with industrial-scale testing to redefine vehicle autonomy.
