Tesla Texas Gigafactory Preps Autonomous Vehicles for Delivery Parking Integration

April 8, 2025 – Tesla has recently expanded its autonomous driving capabilities beyond its California plant, now introducing similar technology at its Texas Gigafactory. According to industry insider Joe Tegtmeyer, the company has deployed an “autonomous drive-off” feature for refreshed Model Y and Cybertruck vehicles, allowing them to navigate from the production line to the delivery parking area without human intervention.

This development aligns with Tesla’s broader strategy to demonstrate its readiness for autonomous transportation. With plans to launch a commercial robotaxi service in Austin, Texas, by June, the move is seen as a dual-purpose initiative aimed at reducing delivery costs and showcasing the company’s commitment to autonomous driving technology.

In preparation for this launch, Tesla has begun setting up production equipment for the Cybercab at the Texas Gigafactory. The prototype is slated for summer production, with a full-scale rollout expected in 2026. The Cybercab will feature a battery pack under 50kWh, offering a real-world range of 300 miles and achieving the highest energy efficiency among electric vehicles on any road.

Given the Cybercab’s production timeline, it is more likely that Tesla’s upcoming “unsupervised, driverless” robotaxi service in Austin will utilize modified Model 3 vehicles equipped with additional cameras, pending the Cybercab’s eventual market debut.
