Tesla Sets New Mileage Record: Battery & Powertrain Excellence After 1 Million Kilometers

March 28, 2026 – A Tesla has once again set a new global benchmark, with its total mileage officially surpassing 2.7 million kilometers. This astonishing figure not only demonstrates the extreme durability of electric vehicles (EVs) but has also captured the attention of car enthusiasts worldwide.

Hansjrg Gemmingen, a German car owner, recently shared his latest achievement on social media. The record-breaking vehicle is a second-hand Model S P85+ purchased in 2014. When Gemmingen bought it, the car had already covered approximately 30,000 kilometers.

Since its acquisition, the car’s mileage has skyrocketed. By November 2019, it had reached the 1 million-kilometer mark. By April 2024, this number had doubled to 2 million kilometers. Today, it continues to operate smoothly, aiming for even higher milestones.

Gemmingen and his wife are avid travelers, and this Tesla has become their ideal companion for long-distance journeys.

According to the owner’s public disclosure of the vehicle’s core component status, the Tesla’s performance has exceeded many expectations. After nearly 1 million kilometers of driving, the original battery still maintains a health level of 85%. Additionally, the original motor has accumulated over 1.11 million kilometers of operation, showcasing remarkable stability.

Although the vehicle has undergone battery and motor repairs or replacements during its 2.7 million-kilometer journey, the long-lasting performance of its core components still highlights the advantages of EVs with their simplified mechanical structures. This high-mileage real-world test provides strong evidence for the feasibility of long-term EV ownership.

Through his real-life experience, Gemmingen has effectively refuted outdated claims that EVs are unsuitable for frequent daily driving or long-distance commuting. He believes that with proper maintenance and advanced energy management systems, EVs can outlast traditional fuel-powered vehicles.
