April 30, 2025 – Tesla is reportedly accelerating the production ramp-up of its highly anticipated Semi electric semi-truck at an unprecedented pace, according to insiders familiar with the matter. The company has recently hired over a thousand factory workers at its Nevada facility, marking a significant step toward fulfilling its long-standing commitment to mass-producing the innovative vehicle, three sources confirmed.
Over the past few months, these newly recruited employees have been undergoing training sessions and touring the Giga Sparks factory, where the Semi production line is being set up, two of the sources revealed. Prior to this expansion, the workforce dedicated to the Semi project numbered fewer than 100, a figure that even included personnel from the pilot production line in California.

In a notable development, Tesla released a video on Monday announcing the completion of factory construction, with production line installation now underway. The journey for the Semi began back in 2017 when Elon Musk first unveiled the concept, promising a 2019 start for mass production. However, it wasn’t until December 2022 that Tesla delivered the first Semi to PepsiCo, which was part of a 100-unit order placed by the beverage giant in 2017. Musk had then projected an annual production target of 50,000 units by 2024.
In 2023, Tesla announced plans to construct a dedicated Semi factory in Nevada. During an earnings call held on April 22 of that year, the company indicated that production would commence at the facility by the end of the year, with full-scale manufacturing slated for 2026.
The factory’s construction timeline has faced several delays, a situation Musk attributed to constraints in the battery supply chain. The Semi relies on high-capacity batteries composed of tens of thousands of individual cells, presenting a formidable manufacturing challenge.
The Semi stands as one of Tesla’s most ambitious projects to date. Boasting an impressive range of approximately 800 kilometers on a single charge, it nearly doubles the driving distance of comparable electric trucks currently on the market. Musk has also hinted at the Semi’s potential for autonomous driving capabilities in the future.
Additionally, Tesla has touted the truck’s ability to recharge up to 70% of its battery capacity in just around 30 minutes when using its Megacharger high-power charging stations, further enhancing its appeal for long-haul transportation needs.
