August 20, 2025 – Tesla is stepping up its global expansion of Full Self-Driving (FSD) technology, with notable progress in both Japan and Thailand.
According to a report by Nihon Keizai Shimbun today, Tesla initiated FSD testing on Japanese roads this summer, with safety drivers present in the vehicles. Tesla Japan clarified that the current testing phase is focused on ensuring compliance with local safety regulations. Once regulatory approval is secured, the company plans to roll out the FSD feature to users as soon as possible. Both older and newer Tesla models will be eligible for the service through over-the-air (OTA) updates.
In a related development, Elon Musk confirmed on X over the weekend that Tesla is actively working on bringing FSD to Thailand. The company is currently awaiting approval from local regulatory authorities before proceeding with the launch.

Musk also revealed last week that Tesla is preparing a major V14 update for its FSD system, with an expected release as early as September. He emphasized that the upcoming update, set to debut in about six weeks, will deliver significant performance improvements. While specific details about the new features remain under wraps, Musk highlighted that the update will increase the number of parameters by tenfold and include numerous other enhancements.
“The FSD release in about six weeks will be a massive step forward,” Musk wrote. “The parameter count is increasing tenfold, along with many other improvements. It’s currently undergoing training and testing. Once we confirm FSD 14’s real-world safety—which we believe will be outstanding—your car will require far fewer interventions.”
