Tesla Cybertruck Undergoes Major Revisions: Price Hikes and Entry-Level Model Disappearance

August 13, 2024 – Tesla’s highly anticipated electric pickup truck, the Cybertruck, has undergone significant revisions, with the company officially removing the entry-level rear-wheel-drive variant scheduled for 2025 delivery and priced at $60,990 from its configurator. This move signals a strategic shift in the product lineup, leaving customers with revised options that reflect a new pricing landscape.

In a surprising turn of events, the all-wheel-drive model has seen its price soar from 79,990to99,990, marking an increase of $20,000. Despite this substantial price hike, the range of the vehicle has been trimmed from 340 miles (approximately 547 kilometers) to 318 miles (around 512 kilometers). However, Tesla maintains that the Cybertruck retains its impressive 608 horsepower, capable of propelling the truck from 0-60 mph in just 4.1 seconds, with a top speed of 112 mph (approximately 180 kph).

The top-tier Cyberbeast performance model has also undergone a similar price adjustment, jumping from 99,990to119,990, a $20,000 increase. Accompanying this rise, the estimated range has slightly decreased from 320 miles (approximately 515 kilometers) to 301 miles (around 484 kilometers). The Cyberbeast’s other specifications remain unchanged, boasting 857 horsepower, a 0-60 mph acceleration time of 2.6 seconds (excluding rollout), a top speed of 209 kph, and a towing capacity of 4,990 kilograms.

Deliveries for the all-wheel-drive Cybertruck are now anticipated between August and September 2024, while the Cyberbeast is set for a delivery window from October to December of the same year.

It’s worth noting that all currently available Cybertrucks are part of the limited-edition “Foundation Series,” which Tesla touts as fully equipped models. However, these prices are a far cry from Elon Musk’s initial promise of a starting price of just $39,900.

Moreover, the competition in the electric pickup segment has intensified, with General Motors’ Hummer EV pickup now boasting a starting price (including destination fees) of 98,845,underscoringthepremiumpositioningoftheCybertruck,whichstartsat101,985 (including shipping). This development underscores the dynamic nature of the EV market and the ongoing race for supremacy among manufacturers.
