Porsche CEO Hails Electric 718 as ‘Most Thrilling’ Model Yet

October 16, 2025 – During a recent interview with Germany’s auto motor und sport on the 10th (local time), Porsche CEO Oliver Blume shared exciting details about the brand’s future lineup, including a new fuel-powered SUV set to replace the discontinued Macan, potentially under a fresh name.

Blume outlined plans to introduce dedicated fuel-powered and plug-in hybrid variants in the D-segment SUV category, with the new model slated to debut by the end of the decade. Alongside the Cayenne, Porsche’s electric vehicle strategy will prioritize two-door sports cars, with the 718 Cayman and Boxster transitioning to all-electric platforms following their discontinuation last year due to stricter European safety regulations. “After launching the electric Cayenne, we’ll introduce our first two-door electric sports car,” Blume confirmed.

The CEO expressed particular enthusiasm for the electric 718, praising its mid-mounted motor and battery layout for achieving “perfect weight distribution and exceptional driving dynamics.” While technical specifics remain limited, the model is confirmed to utilize an upgraded 800V architecture, targeting a curb weight between 1,600-1,700kg, at least 300-400kW of power, and over 400km of range.

Blume emphasized Porsche’s commitment to lightweight engineering, stating, “Fans have much to anticipate. This car will redefine high-performance electric mobility while succeeding aesthetically.” He also highlighted innovations like the T-Hybrid system, which elevates combustion engines through advanced micro-hybrid technology to enhance driving pleasure and reduce emissions. “This approach will extend to other models, adapting to platform requirements and regulations—T-Hybrid could become a key option,” he added.

The announcements follow Porsche’s September 2025 strategic shift, which retained fuel engines for high-performance 718 variants and canceled plans for the Cayenne-sized “K1” electric SUV.
