Nissan to Slash 10,000 More Jobs Amid Persistent Performance Woes

May 13 2025 – Japanese broadcaster NHK reported today that Nissan Motor Co. has finalized plans to cut an additional workforce of over 10,000 employees both domestically and internationally as the automaker battles worsening financial performance and aims to revitalize its operations. When combined with previous restructuring initiatives, the group’s total layoff count is projected to reach approximately 20,000, accounting for roughly 15% of its global workforce.

The move follows a dire warning issued by Nissan last month, in which the company cautioned that its net loss for the fiscal year ending in March could balloon to between 700 billion and 750 billion yen due to substantial impairment charges—marking a record-breaking financial setback.
