October 20, 2024 – Ford has recently instructed some of its electric vehicle owners to temporarily halt the usage of Tesla Supercharger adapters provided by the company. As reported by InsideEVs, a service bulletin sent to the affected customers revealed that Ford had identified a “potential issue” with these adapters, which could lead to a “gradual decrease in charging speed over time” and possibly even cause damage to the charging port.

It’s worth noting that Ford had been offering these adapters free of charge to its electric vehicle owners since February this year, enabling them to utilize Tesla’s Supercharger network.
Ford is set to commence the distribution of replacement adapters to its customers during the week of October 28, along with providing guidelines for returning the existing adapters. Both the replacement and return services will be offered at no cost to the customers. The company has emphasized that retrieving all the affected adapters is crucial to minimize the potential risk of vehicle damage.
According to the notification issued by Ford, the affected electric vehicle owners are required to verify the accuracy of their mailing addresses in Ford’s records. If the address is correct, no further action is needed. However, if there are any discrepancies, customers must update their address information by October 24 to ensure timely delivery of the new adapter.
InsideEVs further mentioned that only a “recent batch” of North American charging standard adapters has been impacted. Meanwhile, both Rivian and General Motors have stated that they have not encountered similar issues with their own adapters.
