June 13, 2025 – As Tesla inches closer to the launch of its highly anticipated Robotaxi service in Austin on June 22, CEO Elon Musk has taken to social media platform X to urge European regulators to expedite the approval process for the company’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) technology.
In his post, Musk expressed his frustration over the delay in obtaining the necessary permits, stating, “We’re still waiting for the green light from Dutch regulators and the EU.” He emphasized that the prolonged wait was not only disheartening but also posed a potential safety risk. Musk highlighted that the use of Tesla’s advanced autonomous driving system could significantly reduce the likelihood of injuries by fourfold during driving. He encouraged Tesla users to advocate for faster approval from their respective regulatory authorities, aiming to enhance road safety across Europe.

This appeal comes at a crucial time for Tesla, as the company is in the final stages of preparing for its Robotaxi project. Earlier reports indicated that Musk had revealed Tesla’s move to scale up unsupervised FSD testing in Austin a month ahead of schedule to ensure a smooth rollout.
Musk has been a vocal advocate for accelerating the development of autonomous driving regulations, not just in Europe but also in the United States. He believes that a unified federal regulatory standard should be established rather than continuing to rely on state-by-state rules, which can lead to inconsistencies and hinder progress.
In a related development, Tesla has recently reapplied to the United States Patent and Trademark Office for the “Tesla Robotaxi” text trademark. The previous application was rejected on the grounds that it was deemed too generic. This latest move underscores Tesla’s commitment to its Robotaxi initiative and its determination to overcome any regulatory hurdles that may arise.
