BYD Boosts 2026 Auto Export Target to 1.5 Million Units, a 15% Hike

March 31, 2026 – According to sources familiar with the matter, BYD has informed analysts that its export volume this year is likely to exceed the previously set target by 15%. As the world’s largest electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer, BYD is banking on growth in overseas markets to counteract a decline in domestic sales.

After its fourth-quarter financial results fell short of expectations, BYD held an analyst briefing on Monday. During the meeting, management expressed confidence that the company’s car exports would reach 1.5 million units in 2026. This forecast is higher than the original target of 1.3 million units announced in January this year.

It’s worth noting that BYD’s overseas sales surpassed 1 million units last year.

Currently, BYD’s models are highly popular in international markets. However, the cost of its global expansion is substantial. To circumvent trade barriers, BYD is continuously expanding its production bases in Brazil, Hungary, and Southeast Asia.

Battery technology, which forms the cornerstone of BYD’s business, remains a key focus area. In addition to its next-generation Blade Battery, BYD has also introduced a brand-new flash-charging system. This system can recharge a battery from 10% to 70% in just 5 minutes and reach nearly full capacity in 9 minutes.

Sources revealed that BYD plans to start installing flash-charging stations across overseas markets from 2027 onwards.
