AI-Powered Vehicle Inspections: Comprehensive Reports in Just One Minute

June 24, 2024 – The omnipresence of AI is increasingly being felt in various industries, and the automotive sector is no exception. From in-car voice assistants powered by large language models to a myriad of intelligent driver-assistance systems, AI is revolutionizing the automotive experience. However, its potential extends far beyond these visible applications.

According to a recent report by Carscoops, a growing number of dealerships in the United States are now utilizing AI systems for initial vehicle inspections. This emerging trend has already been implemented in over 300 dealerships across the country, significantly enhancing efficiency and reducing work hours.

A Cadillac dealership in Las Vegas, equipped with an automated vehicle inspection system, describes the scanning process as remarkably simple and swift, taking less than a minute to complete. Customers simply drive their vehicles through a large scanner, which captures multiple photos from various angles, including the underside of the car. These images are then analyzed by AI software to identify any defects on the exterior, tires, and visible mechanical components.

Within approximately 30-45 seconds, customers receive a comprehensive condition report on their vehicle. Based on these findings, dealership technicians can address any underlying issues, ensuring the safety of the car before it hits the road.

UVEye, a local supplier of automated vehicle inspection systems, highlights the efficiency of their technology. The system can swiftly detect defects such as oil leaks, which traditionally require technicians to spend considerable time lifting the vehicle and conducting a thorough inspection.

The general manager of the company notes that while customers may initially be apprehensive about potential costs associated with previously unknown defects identified by the AI, it is undoubtedly better to discover and address potential issues early on rather than dealing with them after they become problematic.

Remarkably, this technology demonstrates that AI, while exceeding human capabilities in certain tasks, does not necessarily displace human workers. Instead, it creates additional work for technicians by uncovering problems that might have been overlooked, keeping them busy with repairs and maintenance.
