Tata Group Takes Over iPhone/MacBook Repair Duties as Apple Bolsters India Operations

June 6, 2025 – According to a Reuters report published yesterday (June 5), Apple has entrusted the repair services for its iPhone and MacBook devices in the Indian market to Tata Group, a major Indian conglomerate. This move, revealed by two sources familiar with the matter, underscores Tata’s growing significance within Apple’s supply chain ecosystem.

Previously, the repair responsibilities for these devices were managed by ICT Service Management Solutions, a subsidiary of Wistron Corp. operating in India. The transition process is currently underway, and once completed, Tata will commence offering repair services at its iPhone assembly facility in the state of Karnataka.

While Apple maintains service centers across India, these centers primarily handle minor repairs. More complex issues are forwarded to authorized partners for diagnosis and resolution.

India, recognized as the world’s second – largest smartphone market, is witnessing a surge in demand for device repair services. Data from Counterpoint Research indicates that Apple sold approximately 11 million iPhones in India in 2024, with its market share soaring from 1% in 2020 to 7%.

Tata Group has already established itself as a crucial supplier for Apple in India. It assembles iPhones at three factories in southern India, catering to both the local and overseas markets. Additionally, Tata is involved in the production of certain iPhone components. The expansion into repair services further strengthens the collaborative partnership between the two companies.
