May 22 2025 – In a recent update to its product support page, Apple has reclassified certain iPhone models as “vintage,” as reported by tech media outlet MacRumors today. Specifically, the iPhone 7 Plus and the 64GB and 256GB variants of the iPhone 8 have now joined the list of devices considered outdated by the tech giant.
Notably, the (PRODUCT) RED edition of the iPhone 8 had already been designated as “vintage” prior to this update. However, the 128GB version of the iPhone 8, which enjoyed a longer period of availability in the market, has not yet been included in this classification.

In a parallel move, Apple has also transitioned the iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 2 from the “vintage” category to the “obsolete” list. This adjustment reflects the company’s ongoing efforts to manage its product lifecycle and support offerings.
According to Apple’s official support documentation, a product is classified as “vintage” if it has been discontinued from sale for more than five years but less than seven years. Conversely, a device is deemed “obsolete” once it has been off the market for over seven years. These changes are part of Apple’s broader strategy to streamline its product support and ensure that resources are allocated efficiently.
