April iPhone Exports from India to U.S. Surge 76%, Analysts Signal Growth Peak

May 29 2025 – According to a report from CNBC, citing data from research firm Canalys, iPhone shipments from India to the United States surged by 76% year-on-year in April this year. This spike coincides with Apple’s accelerated efforts to advance its “Made in India” initiative. However, analysts caution that the pace of iPhone production expansion in India remains insufficient, and Apple’s move to ramp up manufacturing in the country could face opposition from former U.S. President Donald Trump.

Canalys revealed that approximately 3 million iPhones were exported from India to the U.S. in April, marking a 76% increase from the same period last year, though lower than the 4.4 million units shipped in March. This suggests that Apple might have front-loaded shipments from India in March to hedge against potential tariff policies under Trump’s administration. In the first four months of the year, Apple exported a total of 11.5 million iPhones from India to the U.S.

Despite the notable growth in iPhone shipments from India in March and April, demonstrating the adaptability of Apple’s supply chain, analysts from Canalys’ parent company, Omdia, predict that this growth rate is likely to decelerate in the remaining months of the year.

“The current rate of capacity expansion in India is not yet adequate to fully meet U.S. market demands,” remarked Le Xuan Chiew, an analyst at Omdia. “It’s premature to rely solely on India for iPhone supplies at this stage.” Chiew pointed out that Apple only recently commenced shipping its most advanced iPhone 16 Pro models from India.

Omdia estimates that the quarterly demand for iPhones in the U.S. market stands at around 20 million units, a volume that India’s production capacity is not expected to match until 2026.
