September 18, 2024 – In a recent interview published by Nikkei on September 11th, Sony PlayStation’s Co-CEO Hideaki Nishino emphasized that despite the company’s efforts to expand its audience on PC and mobile devices, game consoles will remain the core of its business in the future.
Addressing the value of game consoles, Nishino stated, “Mobile devices often feature games with advertisements, while PCs can be challenging to set up. However, with PlayStation, users can enjoy a seamless experience by simply turning on the console and immediately accessing their purchased content.” He further highlighted the intuitive nature of the PlayStation store, praising its user-friendly layout that makes it easy for players to navigate and understand the product offerings.

Nishino also mentioned the company’s strategy to increase its market share in the overall gaming industry by developing content for PCs. “While there’s no doubt that game consoles will continue to be the backbone of our business, offering games on platforms beyond consoles allows us to reach a broader audience,” he explained.
Earlier this year, during a business briefing, Nishino emphasized the unique value proposition of game consoles. “Game consoles are built from the ground up using our own technology stack, enabling us to deliver an exceptional user experience. The value of game consoles will persist, and it is our mission to continually refine and enhance this experience,” he stated.
