Google’s Generous Gift: 18-Month Free AI Pro Subscription for Jio Users

October 31, 2025 – In a strategic move to bolster its AI presence in emerging markets, Google has forged a partnership with Reliance Industries, led by India’s richest man Mukesh Ambani, to bundle its AI Pro subscription service at no extra cost with Jio’s 5G plans.

Reliance stands as India’s most valuable enterprise, and Jio is among the nation’s leading telecom operators. On Thursday (local time), Google announced this collaboration, offering an 18-month free subscription to AI Pro for eligible Jio users.

India, with over a billion internet users, is the world’s second-largest online market and a hotly contested emerging battleground for tech giants. U.S. tech firms widely regard it as the next frontier for AI development. It offers the dual advantage of accumulating diverse data and testing new application models, which can then be rolled out to other developing markets.

Jio’s free offer will initially target young users aged 18 to 25 before expanding to all users across the country. Subscribers can access the Gemini 2.5 Pro model via the Gemini app, along with higher limits for AI-generated images and videos (using Nano Banana and Veo 3.1), extended learning and research capabilities through Notebook LM, and a massive 2TB of cloud storage for Google Photos, Gmail, Drive, and WhatsApp backups.

Reliance stated that the partnership would also explore more “AI-powered localized experiences,” enriching usage scenarios for Jio users.

According to both parties, the 18-month free service is valued at 35,100 rupees, while Google’s AI Pro plan in India costs 1,950 rupees per month, with a one-month free trial available.

Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google and Alphabet, said the collaboration would bring Google’s most advanced AI tools to Indian consumers, businesses, and the developer community.

Earlier this year, Google offered a one-year free subscription to AI Pro for Indian students, but that promotion ended on September 15.
