March 19, 2025 – In a major move today, Google announced its acquisition of New York-headquartered cloud security startup Wiz for a whopping $32 billion in an all-cash deal, subject to potential adjustments upon final settlement. Upon completion, Wiz will be integrated into Google Cloud.
This acquisition marks Google Cloud’s strategic investment in two rapidly growing trends in the AI era: bolstering cloud security capabilities and supporting multi-cloud environments, which entail the utilization of multiple cloud service providers. Both cybersecurity and cloud computing are thriving industries with a vast array of technological solutions. The widespread adoption of AI and the proliferation of cloud services have significantly transformed the cybersecurity landscape faced by clients, underscoring the increasing importance of cybersecurity in mitigating emerging risks and safeguarding national security.

According to Google, Wiz offers an easy-to-use security platform that connects to all major cloud services and code environments, aiding in the prevention of cybersecurity incidents. Organizations of all sizes, from startups to large enterprises and governmental and public sector institutions, can leverage Wiz to protect everything they build and run in the cloud. As an innovative industry leader, Wiz has consistently launched new products and achieved widespread adoption, driving rapid business growth, particularly in the past 12 months where it introduced new categories of cybersecurity solutions.
Google boasts that Google Cloud is a leader in cloud infrastructure with deep AI expertise and a track record of industry-leading cybersecurity innovations. Combining these strengths with Wiz will further enhance the quality and scalability of Wiz’s solutions, benefiting clients and partners across all major cloud services. Google asserts that the integration of Google Cloud and Wiz will yield several benefits:
Providing an end-to-end security platform for clients of various types and sizes in the AI era, drastically improving the design, operation, and automation of security;
Assisting cybersecurity teams in scaling through the provision of an automated security platform;
Reducing the cost for clients to implement and manage security controls;
Guarding against new threats emerging from AI developments, preventing data breaches, and enabling organizations to respond to them more efficiently;
Promoting the adoption of multi-cloud security, thereby empowering clients to utilize multiple cloud services, further fueling cloud computing innovation and adoption.
Wiz’s products will continue to operate on and be available to clients across all major cloud platforms, including Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, and Oracle Cloud Platform. Additionally, Wiz’s offerings will be accessible to clients through a range of partner security solutions. Google Cloud will also continue to offer a variety of partner security solutions through the Google Cloud Marketplace, preserving a wide array of choices for clients.
The deal is contingent upon customary closing conditions, including regulatory approvals.
This acquisition stands as Google’s largest to date, with Wiz having previously rejected a $23 billion offer from the internet search giant last year. At that time, Wiz believed it could achieve a higher valuation through an IPO. Regulatory concerns also influenced this decision.
