Bloomberg: Apple’s New U.S. App Store Rules Projected to Boost Mobile Game Developers’ Revenue by $4.1B in 2025

May 30 2025 – Bloomberg published an article today highlighting that mobile game developers in the U.S. could potentially see a substantial increase in revenue this year, amounting to billions of dollars, due to Apple’s new App Store regulations.

Drawing on data from the top 25 mobile games on the U.S. App Store in 2024, industry analyst firm Aldora Intelligence forecasts that game developers stand to gain an additional $4.1 billion in 2025 following the implementation of these new rules.

Last month, U.S. District Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers ruled that Apple must permit developers to sell their products outside of the App Store.

Michael Pachter, an analyst at Wedbush Securities, projects that developers could secure an additional $19.5 billion over the next few years, funds that would have otherwise gone to app stores.

Pachter emphasized that game companies might reinvest this money to attract new players, who in turn would likely purchase more digital in-game items, such as tools to enhance gameplay progression.

“Developers will earn more, Apple will earn less, and there will be more direct transactions,” Pachter remarked. Additionally, Aldora Intelligence’s report indicates that the commissions paid by mobile game developers to app stores are expected to decrease by roughly a third, falling to around 20%.
