May 29 2025 – Norwegian tech firm Opera has unveiled its latest browser, Opera Neon, aiming to revolutionize the web browsing experience through the integration of an AI agent. Dubbed as an “agentic browser,” Opera Neon is designed with contextual awareness, empowering users to delegate various tasks such as research, content creation, and design.
Henrik Lexow, Senior Director of AI Products at Opera, stated in the company’s press release, “We’re at a pivotal moment where AI can fundamentally reshape how we interact with the internet and accomplish tasks within browsers. Opera Neon brings this capability directly to users’ fingertips.”

The browser is equipped with an AI engine that Opera claims can “comprehend and interpret” user needs, leveraging cloud-based AI agents to execute tasks. For instance, Opera asserts that Neon is capable of generating games, reports, code snippets, and even websites, all while managing multiple tasks simultaneously, even offline. Currently, Opera has not disclosed the release date or pricing of the browser, only mentioning that it will be a “paid subscription product,” leaving detailed information about its actual capabilities somewhat limited.
In addition to these features, Opera Neon offers AI tools akin to Microsoft’s Copilot and OpenAI’s Operator. Users can search the web, ask questions, and extract “contextual information” from currently open web pages through a chatbot interface. The browser also includes the “Browser Operator” AI agent, previously introduced in March, which allows users to automate routine web tasks like shopping, filling out online forms, and booking events or accommodations. Opera emphasizes that this tool interacts with web content locally within the browser to ensure privacy and security.
While details about Opera Neon remain somewhat scarce, it marks Opera’s fifth browser launch following the introduction of the mindfulness-focused Air browser in February.
