No More Homework Cheating: OpenAI Unveils ChatGPT Study Mode, a Free 24/7 Tutor for In – depth Learning

July 30, 2025 – Early this morning, OpenAI made a significant announcement, rolling out the Study mode for ChatGPT. This new feature is specifically designed to assist students in truly mastering knowledge points, rather than just finishing their homework assignments.

Starting today, the Study mode is accessible to free, Plus, Pro, and Team users of ChatGPT. However, users of the ChatGPT Edu version will have to wait a few more weeks to take advantage of this functionality.

According to official sources, this mode is primarily targeted at the education sector. The system will present students with guiding questions and tailor its responses based on their learning objectives and skill levels. This approach aims to help students develop a more in – depth understanding of the subjects they are studying.

The ChatGPT Study mode offers four key methods: interactive prompts, scaffolded responses, personalized education, and knowledge point checks. It can delve deeply into the problem – solving ideas and processes of every difficult question, providing students with a comprehensive breakdown.

In essence, it functions as a 24 – hour online tutor. It can offer personalized guidance and feedback according to students’ learning progress and needs. Not only does it aid students in comprehending complex concepts, but it also fosters critical thinking and self – learning abilities through step – by – step guidance.

Robbie Torney, the Senior Director of the AI Project at Common Sense Media, commented, “Instead of doing the homework for students, the Study mode encourages them to think critically about the learning process. This kind of function is a positive step in promoting the effective application of AI in the field of education. Even in the age of AI, the most effective learning still occurs when students are passionate about the course content and actively participate in it.”
