June 28, 2025 – In a significant move to bolster its renewable energy portfolio, Meta announced on Thursday that it has inked deals with energy developer Invenergy to acquire a total of 791 megawatts (MW) of solar and wind power. The projects, spread across Ohio, Arkansas, and Texas, are set to come online between 2027 and 2028. This announcement follows closely on the heels of another deal revealed on Wednesday, where Meta stated its intention to purchase environmental attributes totaling 360 MW from two solar plants operated by Adapture Renewables in Texas.

Meta’s recent forays into the renewable energy sector have been noteworthy. Last month, the tech giant struck a deal with AES, an energy firm, to procure electricity from two solar projects amounting to 650 MW. Earlier this month, it also teamed up with XGS Energy to develop a 150 MW enhanced geothermal plant in New Mexico. These initiatives underscore Meta’s commitment to sustainability and its role in driving the transition towards cleaner energy sources.
Amidst efforts by congressional Republicans to slash renewable energy subsidies within budget reconciliation bills, Meta’s investments serve as a welcome boost for the industry. The company’s focus on solar energy, in particular, stands out due to its rapid deployment capabilities. A typical solar farm can be constructed within 18 months, and phased construction allows for partial power generation even before the entire project is completed, making it an attractive option for data centers seeking quick access to clean energy.
