August 21, 2025 – Today, tech media outlet The Verge reported that during a late-night event, Google unveiled its brand-new voice assistant, “Gemini for Home.” This new assistant is set to arrive on Google Nest smart speakers and displays in October through an early access program, gradually replacing the current Google Assistant.
Users will still be able to wake up the assistant by saying “Hey Google,” and it will be accessible to all family members and guests in the home. With it, they can control various smart devices such as lights, music players, and timers.
According to the report, “Gemini for Home” comes in two versions: a free one and a paid one. The specific pricing for the paid version has not been announced yet, but there are expectations that it will be bundled with service packages like Nest Aware or Google One.

Unlike previous minor updates, Gemini for Home is powered by Google’s latest Gemini AI model. This gives it enhanced reasoning, search, and contextual understanding capabilities. The new assistant can accurately understand and execute complex commands. For instance, it can follow instructions like “Turn off all the lights except those in the bedroom” or “Play songs from this year’s racing-themed blockbuster movies.” Additionally, it makes it easier to create to-do lists, calendars, and reminders.
One of the standout features of Gemini for Home is the integration of Gemini Live. This function offers a more natural and seamless voice conversation experience. Whether users are cooking in the kitchen, going about their daily lives, brainstorming ideas, or even creating bedtime stories, they can engage in multi-round conversations with the assistant without having to repeatedly say the wake word. This allows the smart assistant to provide more thoughtful and personalized assistance.
