June 27, 2025 – Google has just rolled out an experimental app called Doppl, leveraging generative AI to enable users to visualize how different outfits would look on their own bodies, as reported by TechCurnch. Currently available in the United States, the app is compatible with both iOS and Android devices.
The user experience with Doppl is designed to be straightforward. After uploading a full-body photo, users can virtually try on clothes by uploading images or screenshots of garments. These could be from thrift stores, worn by friends, or even fashion posts spotted on social media platforms.
Once a piece of clothing is selected, the app generates a virtual image of the user wearing it. To enhance the realism of the fitting experience, Doppl can transform these static images into AI-generated videos, showcasing how the clothing would move and drape in real life.
Users have the option to save their favorite looks, review past try-ons, and even share their stylish creations with others.
Google has positioned Doppl as an extension of its recent virtual try-on feature in Google Shopping. By launching Doppl as a standalone app, the company aims to make this service more accessible and engaging for users, allowing them to explore their personal style in a fun and interactive way. This move also helps Google gather valuable data on the technology, which could inform future developments in this field.
Unlike Google’s previous virtual try-on efforts, which focused on displaying outfits on various models, Doppl shifts the spotlight onto the user, enabling them to try on clothes on their own digital avatar.
“We hope Doppl will inspire you to explore your wardrobe in entirely new ways,” Google stated. However, the company also cautioned that as an experiment from Google Labs, Doppl is still in its early stages, and the accuracy of fit, appearance, and details may vary.
At present, it remains unclear whether Google plans to expand Doppl to other regions or what the timeline for such an expansion might be.
