Elon Musk Predicts: AI to Eclipse Human Collective Intelligence in 5 Years

September 12, 2025 – During his appearance on the “All-In” podcast yesterday, Tesla CEO Elon Musk delved into a range of topics, including AI trends and the development of his company’s Grok chatbot.

Musk revealed that the xAI team has set its sights on launching a significantly more advanced version of the Grok chatbot next year. This new iteration is expected to mark a major step towards the creation of AI Agents. Looking further ahead, he predicted that by 2026, AI will surpass individual human intelligence in every aspect.

Taking an even bolder stance, Musk offered an optimistic projection that in five years, by 2030, AI’s combined intelligence could match or even exceed the total intelligence of all humanity. While this view is undeniably forward – thinking, it also carries a hint of recklessness.

However, Musk didn’t shy away from acknowledging the ongoing efforts at xAI. The team is currently working on optimizing the Grok 4 model. This new model places a strong emphasis on “principle – based reasoning,” which is anticipated to deliver more logical and accurate responses. Additionally, compared to its predecessor, Grok 3, the Grok 4 model has shown a reduction in the occurrence of “hallucinations”—a term used to describe the generation of false or non – existent information.

FE Tech Bytes, an external media outlet, commented on Musk’s statements. They noted that while Musk’s remarks are overly optimistic and somewhat aggressive, his position within the AI industry means his words can, to some extent, reflect industry trends. Moreover, Musk has a long – standing reputation for making bold predictions, which could also be seen as a way to generate buzz for his own products.
