Amazon Delays Web – Based Alexa AI Launch: Workload Underestimation to Blame, Set for Post – July 31 Rollout

July 16, 2025 – According to a recent blog post by tech media outlet Windows Central, Amazon has decided to postpone the launch of its web – based Alexa service to after July 31. This delay comes as the company underestimated the scale of work required to bring the service online.

Earlier reports indicated that during an event in February this year, Amazon had laid out plans to introduce its web – based virtual assistant, Alexa.com, in mid – June. The move was seen as a significant expansion of Alexa’s reach beyond its traditional smart speaker and device ecosystem.

However, newly revealed internal documents show that while Amazon has been actively working to make the service a reality, the complexity of the project was greater than initially anticipated. The amount of work needed for a successful rollout led the company’s top brass to announce that the service would not be launched any earlier than July 31.

In an interview with The Washington Post, Amazon spokesperson Lauren Raemhild highlighted the positive reception of Alexa +’s conversational experience among users. She noted that users have shown a great deal of enthusiasm for the enhanced interaction, as Alexa + is capable of handling more complex tasks compared to its previous iterations. This positive feedback may further fuel expectations for the upcoming web – based Alexa service, despite the current delay.
