January 28, 2026 – A recent study by the non – profit Tech Transparency Project has sent shockwaves through the digital world, revealing a disturbing presence of AI – powered “undressing” apps on both the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. These apps are capable of creating nude images from regular photos of others, sparking a major uproar on platforms like Reddit.

When the researchers conducted a search using the keyword “undress” in the two app stores, a large number of apps with strong sexual overtones emerged. Unlike ordinary photo – editing or beautification tools, the main purpose of these apps is clearly to generate sexually explicit images.

In response to the report, Apple’s spokesperson informed the relevant organization that the company had removed several non – compliant apps and issued warnings to the developers. Google, on the other hand, stated that it had suspended the listing qualifications of multiple developers associated with these apps and would continue to take measures to address the issue.
However, critics argue that the two tech giants have been too slow to act. According to reports, some of these apps had been downloaded millions of times before being taken down, generating significant revenue for their developers. It seems that the tech companies only took action under public pressure after the incident was exposed, rather than having an active and strict app review and governance mechanism in place.
