April 12, 2025 – OpenAI has officially announced that GPT-4 will be removed from ChatGPT on April 30th, although it will remain accessible via the API. The company has confirmed that GPT-4 will be entirely replaced by the new, native multimodal model, GPT-4o.
An official evaluation report highlights that GPT-4o outperforms GPT-4 across various domains, including writing quality, programming assistance, and STEM fields. Furthermore, recent updates have enhanced GPT-4o’s capabilities in instruction following, problem-solving, and conversation flow.
Upon investigation, it was noted that OpenAI initially launched GPT-4 on March 14, 2023. The official website now includes a notification stating, “GPT-4 will be deprecated on April 30th.”
