ByteDance Set to Develop AI Smart Glasses, Engages in Supplier Talks

April 12, 2025 – Tonight, The Information reported that ByteDance is gearing up to develop its own AI – powered smart glasses. According to an insider, ByteDance plans to integrate AI features akin to Doubao into its smart glasses.

Sources revealed that ByteDance is currently in negotiations with suppliers to finalize product capabilities, technical specifications, costs, and launch timelines. As of the time of writing by ITHome, a ByteDance spokesperson has yet to respond to requests for comment.

It’s worth noting that ByteDance made its first foray into the AI hardware sector last October in China with the launch of the “first AI – agent earbuds,” Ola Friend, priced at 1199 yuan.

These open – style earbuds weigh just 6.6 grams per earpiece, making them the lightest in their category according to the official claim. They are connected to the Doubao large model, allowing users to initiate conversations with Doubao via voice commands without needing to take out their phones. Students can use them to practice foreign language speaking skills, and foreign tourists can gain information about their travel destinations through them.

Insiders stated that ByteDance has been working on the AI glasses project since last year, with some newly recruited engineers possessing hardware design experience also joining in. The company’s engineers are tackling numerous technical challenges, such as ensuring the glasses can capture high – quality images and videos without significantly compromising battery life.
