Dreame’s CEO on Entering the EV Race: “Stop Worshipping Ferrari — Or You’ll Never Beat Them”

May 27, 2026 – Dreame CEO Yu Hao Delivers Blunt Message: Chinese Brands Must Stop Worshipping Western Giants to Ever Catch Up

The chief executive of Dreame, one of China’s fastest-growing consumer robotics companies, has issued a provocative call to the country’s tech industry: stop treating Apple and Ferrari as untouchable idols if you ever want to beat them.

In a candid interview with industry press, Yu Hao argued that the psychological deference Chinese brands show toward established Western names is quietly strangling innovation. “If your engineers walk into every product meeting already convinced they’ll lose to Apple, and your designers assume Ferrari will always be out of reach — you’ve already lost before you’ve started,” he said.

Yu admitted the market is hungry for someone to say this out loud. He compared himself to Don Quixote — the literary knight who charged at windmills — and said he’s willing to be the “crazy one” who goes first. “When I stand up and say we can challenge these giants, it gives my entire team permission to stop holding back,” he explained.

The comments come as Chinese consumer electronics and EV makers increasingly compete on the global stage, yet many still frame their products as “alternatives” rather than equals. Yu’s message is clear: that mindset has to change — or the gap will never close.
