October 12, 2025 – An artificial intelligence startup, Thinking Machines Lab, headed by Mira Murati, the former Chief Technology Officer of OpenAI, has witnessed the departure of one of its co-founders, who has now joined Meta.
According to The Wall Street Journal, AI researcher Andrew Tulloch informed the company’s staff of his resignation through an internal message on Friday. A spokesperson for Thinking Machines Lab confirmed Tulloch’s exit to The Wall Street Journal, stating, “He has chosen to pursue a different career path for personal reasons.”
Back in August, The Wall Street Journal reported that Mark Zuckerberg was aggressively recruiting top AI talent, including expressing interest in acquiring Thinking Machines Lab. After the acquisition bid failed, Zuckerberg reportedly attempted to lure Tulloch away with a lucrative compensation package worth up to $1.5 billion over a minimum of six years. At the time, a Meta spokesperson dismissed The Wall Street Journal’s description of the offer as “inaccurate and absurd.”
Prior to his role at Thinking Machines Lab, Tulloch had experience working at both OpenAI and Facebook’s AI research division (FAIR).
