June 30, 2025 – According to a recent article by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple’s wearable device revenue is experiencing a downturn and is expected to continue declining in the future. Gurman suggests that the tech giant should explore the development of smart rings as a potential solution.
Gurman highlighted that a significant number of consumers are averse to wearing smartwatches simply because they dislike wearing watches in general. Moreover, many Apple Watch users frequently change their watch bands to match their outfits for the day. In contrast, smart rings offer a simpler and more understated accessory option.

Introducing smart rings could breathe new life into Apple’s wearable product lineup. While the company is currently working on a range of head-mounted displays, smart rings could not only serve as controllers for these devices but also “instantly add a fresh appeal to Apple’s wearable business,” attracting consumers who have grown tired of smartwatches.
For users who already own an Apple Watch, smart rings could complement their existing device. While the Apple Watch relies on its screen to deliver notifications, a smart ring could bypass this distraction, effectively helping users reduce their screen time.
